Social studies begins with an understanding and acceptance of oneself - one's needs, wants and potential. It also involves learning to live cooperatively with family, peers and the larger community. As students grow older, an awareness of world cultures and global interdependence will lead to a love for all of God's created people, regardless of nationality. Because Christians are the "salt" with which the world is to be changed, a proper view of social studies will encourage students to use their knowledge to be agents of positive change in a world needing redemption and active love. Annually, the students become familiar with another culture and language through the eyes of an international teacher who is part of the school community.
Primary - At this level students expand their horizons by moving from learning about themselves and their families in kindergarten to learning about communities near and far at the second grade level through a hands-on, experiential approach.
Upper Elementary - From third through fifth grade students develop their geography and history skills by studying life in the present and past Lancaster County/city area, Pennsylvania, and the United States.
Middle School - Sixth and seventh graders study world geography and history through the past and present experiences of the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. Eighth graders study United States history and geography with an emphasis on the years from reconstruction to the present.
